DS DS3 (France, 2010-present)

The first series of the DS3 supermini is manufactured since 2009. The car marks the starting point for Citroën's new DS (Different Spirit) range.

The DS3 3-door hatchback with front-engine layout is a market competitor for the MINI, Alfa Romeo MiTo and Audi A1. It is available with a range of three petrol and two diesel engines as well as three different transmission types.

In 2012, Citroën built its 200,000th DS3 at its Poissy factory in France. Production of the DS3 started in March 2010.

Citroën expects DS3 sales to expand even further. It will begins the car in Brazil and China in 2013, and the DS3 Cabrio launches in 2013 as well.

The Citroën DS3 got a cabrio model at the Paris Motor Show 2012, similar to the Fiat 500 convertible where the roof rails stay in place, and the cloth roof slides in a track. As with all of the DS-line cars, Citroën is making the car easily tailored to the buyers' desires. The convertible top is available in three designs: black, blue and DS Monogramme. It goes on sale in France in early 2013.

The DS3 Cabrio bears all of the hallmarks of the standard DS3 but with a sliding top. That means that it is the only convertible in its class than can seat five and has the largest rear cargo space in its class. The styling is the same as the DS3, except that the Cabrio has 3D LED rear taillights. Because the top is mounted on a track within the roof rails, the DS3 is able to adjust its roof at up to 120km/h, and the roof can fully close in 16 seconds. The top opens in three positions: intermediate, horizontal and total. Intermediate opens just behind the driver's head; Horizontal opens behind the passengers’' heads; and Total opens completely. The top and its mechanism add just 25kg to the car's weight. Citroën says that it worked hard to keep interior acoustics low, and the DS3 Cabrio has similar interior noise levels as the hatchback. 

Citroën is ensuring that the DS3 can be made however a buyer wants it. The roof, canvas top, body, rearview mirror housings and wheels can all be selected independently. There are 10 colors available for the roof alone.

Inside the dashboard, air vent surrounds and gear stick handle will be body color. There are four available interior colors. The Cabrio also gets white LED ambiance lighting for the interior on the roof and instruments.
