The e-Up was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show and comes with luxury features like automatic climate control, navigation, heated windshield, and LED running lights. According to Volkswagen, given current costs of electricity in Germany each charge of the e-Golf costs €3.30 and each charge of the e-Up costs €3.02. It can be charged to 80% in about half an hour in the fastest charging mode.

The e-Up's electric motor produces 81hp and 155lb-ft of torque. It takes 12.4 seconds to reach 100km/h and has a top speed of 130km/h. Its total range is 160km from a 18.7kWh battery.

The car uses a single-speed transmission with four levels of energy recuperation and two drive modes, which affect throttle response.
