The 340 America was based directly on the 340 F1 and was created t meet the increasing demand of Ferrari cars in the American market. The first model, designed by Touring, had lines reminiscent of those of the 166 Barchetta. Other versions were produced by Ghia and Vignale. In 1951 Gigi Villoresi won the Mile Miglia with a Vignale Berlinetta.
