The Geneva Motor Show 2011 is the stage for the presentation of the new Fiat Freemont, a SUV that marks a new chapter of the partnership between Fiat and Chrysler. The Freemont reaches the markets in the second half of 2011.
The Freemont is based on the Dodge Journey and is Fiat’s first vehicle originating from the partnership with the Chrysler Group. The model is produced at the same plant as the 500 for the US market, in Toluca, Mexico.
With its name resonating freedom, the Freemont has been developed to meet the various desires of families and those seeking a spacious, comfortable and versatile vehicle that can be used both for everyday life or weekend leisure. The car is 4890mm long, 1880mm wide and 1720mm high and provides interior roominess, backed by the 2890mm wheelbase. It offers 7 standard seats with a third row of seats that is easily accessible because the doors open to 90°. This row can also be transformed into a load platform by folding it down. The second row of seats has been raised comparatively to the first row in order to allow maximum visibility for all occupants. The third row has also been raised above the second one.
The Fiat Freeemont can be ordered with a child booster system, which ensures that the children on board are sitting correctly, optimising the seatbelt geometry and giving greater protection, practicality and comfort. A new front end and new bumpers and grille distinguish the model from the Dodge Journey. The back has also been redesigned and features a different bumper and LED tail lights.
This version features a front-wheel drive powered by a turbo diesel power unit, a 170 HP 2.0 MultiJet, combined with a manual gearbox. The Freemont is available in a variety of other versions: with front-wheel drive powered by two turbo diesel power units, a 140 HP or a 170 HP 2.0 MultiJet, both combined with a manual gearbox. Or as a 4x4 version fitted with a 170 HP 2.0 MultiJet or a 276 HP 3.6 petrol V6 engine, both combined with automatic transmissions. All engines are produced by FPT- Fiat PowerTrain, with the exception of Chrysler Group Pentastar’s 3.6 litre unit.
