The Mustang inaugurated a new automobile class, the “pony car”, and rival brands rushed into production to come up with cars of the same category.

The first 18 months of the Mustang’s production stayed for history as the most successful car debut ever, having been sold over one million copies. The Ford Mustang also made an appearance on the 1964 ‘James Bond’ movie Goldfinger, as one of the characters’ vehicle.

More than 40 years have gone by since the Mustang first came out and throughout design and technical improvements the coupé is still being produced. Ford is selling around 150.000 copies of the Mustang each year.
