The Type R is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo i-VTEC engine with 280hp. Some of the innovations that are available on the Type-R include the new driving mode "+R" from Honda. Through a button located on the steering wheel the driver has access to a hightened engine responsiveness, delivering a more aggressive and track oriented performance. The steering response is also improved helped with the new four-point Adaptive Damper System.

The new generation Civic Type-R useS a manual six-speed gearbox like its predecessors.
