The Verna is the third China-exclusive model by Hyundai and was presented at the 2010 Beijing Automotive Exhibition. It is a sub-compact model with a coupe-like design.
Two different Gamma engines are offered with the Verna. The 1.6L DOHC Gamma has an output of 90.4kW, at 6300rpm and maximum torque of 155Nm of at 4200rpm and it is fitted with a four-speed automatic transmission. The other engine is a 1.4L DOHC which boasts 78.7 kW at 6300rpm and has a maximum torque of 135.4Nm at 5000rpm. This engine can be fitted by either a five-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed automatic transmission.
The Verna was developed over five years especially for the Chinese market. The vehicle is built on an all-new platform at the company’s plant in Beijing. To enhance the fuel efficiency the Verna is fitted with the new generation Gamma gasoline engine, which features multiport fuel injection. The Verna satisfies China’s Step 3 fuel economy regulations.
