According to Francois Dossa, president of Nissan Brazil the concept is an evolution of the EXTREM passing from a fantasy car to something that is closer to a production model. The SUV Kicks replaces the over-the-top cues from the EXTREM by elements of robustness and safety appropriate to the Brazilian reality.

The Nissan Kicks was designed in collaboration between Nissan Design America and Nissan Design America Rio, under the leadership of Global Design Center in Japan.
