unveiled the new Aventador Roadster in november 2012. Setting the Aventador Roadster apart is its two-piece carbon fiber top that weighs just 6kg (13lbs). Unfortunately, Lamborghini did not fit a folding metal roof that had been previously rumored, but the company says that it has worked on the top’s mechanism to make it easier to install than previous convertible Lamborghinis. Both pieces fit in the front cargo compartment when not in use.

For safety, the rear pillar has been strengthened and acts as rollover protection. There is also automatic rollover protection in the headrests.

Lamborghini also added a power rear wind deflector to reduce airflow in the cabin when the driver desires.

Other than the removable top, Lamborghini has also restyled the engine cover for the Roadster. It is meant to look like a spinal column with two pairs of hexagonal windows. The company says that the new design allows for the engine to cool properly, drain rainwater when necessary and still allow viewers to see the V12 engine.

The Aventador will come standard in two-tone paint with a major color covering most of the body and black around the windshield, roof sections and rear air intakes. It will be offered in a new metallic blue color called Azzuro Thetis.

The interior also gets a new, exclusive color called Sabbia Nefertem, which is a tan color.

Power for the Roadster is identical to the modern Aventador with a 6.5-liter V12 with 700hp, cylinder deactivation and an ultra capacitor-based stop/start system. It uses a seven-speed transmission. Acceleration to 100km/h takes 3 seconds to a top speed of 350km/h.

The cars ride on forged 20in wheels in the front and 21in wheels in the rear that reduce weight by 10kg (22lbs) total over the standard wheels.
