Maybach was the luxury division of the Daimler AG. Founded in 1909, by Wilhelm and Karl Maybach, father and son, respectively, the company produced engines for zeppelins, rail cars and aircrafts. A decade after opening doors, Maybach launched its first car. It kept producing other luxury models until 1940. The brand was only revived in 1997, when Mercedes-Benz launched two of their models as Maybach 57 and Maybach 52.
In August 2012, the Daimler management announced the discontinuation of the Maybach brand in spite of having announced in 2011 that its cars would still be sold until 2013.
