about this car

The Model J Murphy Whittell Coupé was built for Captain George Whittell Jr., who bought in total six Duesenbergs. The car drives on the long-wheelbase chassis of the Duesenberg J model. The design was done by Franklin Q. Hershey in close cooperation with Whittell himself.  The body is a full aluminium construction, dislaying the brushed material on the roof part. The exterior uses extensive chrome detailings.

Auctioned by Gooding & Company in 2011 at Pebble Beach, the car obtained a bid of $10.3 million, and is not only the most expensive Duesenberg sold at an auction, but also one of the most valuable cars in the world.
