Monteverdi Binningen Motors was established by Peter Monteverdi in Binningen, Basel, Switzerland in 1956. P. Monteverdi build its first own car (the MONTEVERDI Special.) only at the age of 17. In 1961 he manufactured the first Swiss Formula One car which bore the name MBM. In 1967 he embarked on the production of luxury sport and touring cars, designed by the renowned Pietro Frua, under the brand Monteverdi. In 1969 the association with Frua was broken and Monteverdi replaced him by Carozzeria Fissore. In 1976 Monteverdi decided to put an end to the of super luxury cars production and turned to the mass production of luxury off-road station wagons. Production was discontinued in 1984, the plant being converted into a museum, “The Monteverdi Car Collection”.
