National Automobile & Electric Co was founded by L.S.Dow and Philip Goetz Indianapolis, Indiana in 1900 to produce electric vehicles. In 1902 it was reorganized as National Motor Vehicle Company and in 1916 it changed its name again to National Motor Car & Vehicle Company. In 1904 the Company introduced the gasoline automobile into its range of production, the electric vehicles being phased out in 1906. In 1922 the company was integrated into the Associated Motor Industries Group and pursued with car building until 1924 when it ceased production due to heavy financial losses. National’s were high performance, endurable cars that won various races including the 100 mile endurance contest at the Indiana Fairgrounds in 1905 and the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race in 1912.
