A new Hollywood movie about Niki Lauda is to be called ‘Rush’. Following the success of ‘Senna’ the movie ‘Rush’ is touted for release in 2013.
British script writer Peter Morgan is working on the screenplay which will depict the 1976 season. It will feature Lauda’s catastrophic crash at the Nϋrburgring and the title battle that ensued between Niki Lauda and James Hunt.
Lauda nearly burned to death in a fiery accident at the Nϋrburgring, but returned, scarred and in pain, a mere 6 weeks later to battle with James Hunt and his McLaren for the title.
In the end, the battle came down to the final race at Fuji in Japan. The title was decided in Hunt’s favour but with further controversy, thrills and spills.
Reports suggest that filming and preparation has already started at the legendary Nϋrburgring. A figure wearing the familiar McLaren suit and black Helmet has been photographed driving round the circuit and other cars are being sourced to complete the effect, including a Surtees owned by British Touring Car driver Rob Austin.
According to Austin, CGI will be used to make sure the film retains its integrity and that the scenes are as accurate as possible.
