The European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) has released its monthly analysis of the previous month's sales. The organization found that auto sales are down 7.3% over the first ten months of this year and down 4.8% for the month. The ACEA has found that European auto sales have not beat the same month the year before in the last year.
Sales in Germany and the UK stayed positive at 0.5% and 12.1% respectively, but sales continue to decline in the rest of Europe. France was down 7.8%, Italy down 12.4% and Spain down 21.7% over a year ago.
October sales have been falling since 2010 and did so very quickly. In October 2009, a little more than 1.2 million cars were sold in the EU for October. That fell to just over 1 million cars in 2010 and fell another 1.7% from there in 2011. This year sales have dropped even further to under 959,412 cars and 4.8% less than 2011 October sales.
For the first ten months of the year, the UK is the only major market in the EU to post growth at 5%. Germany is down 1.6% for the year, Italy down 19.7%, Spain down 11.9%, France down 13.3%.
