Land Rover has revealed they will be unveiling an all-new Defender concept at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show called the DC100. The company also confirmed that a new Defender is to start production in 2015, so it’s a safe bet that the DC100 will form the basis of that car.
Very few details are currently available, but Land Rover describes the DC100 as building upon the true character and heritage of the Defender while serving as inspiration for the public to ‘dream about Defenders of the future’.
The 2015 Defender probably won’t carry over the entire radical design of the DC100 concept, but Land Rover’s Director of Design Gerry McGovern hinted that it may be fairly similar.
“Replacing the iconic Defender is one of the biggest challenges in the automotive design world; it is a car that inspires people worldwide,” he said.
“This isn't a production-ready concept but the beginning of a four-year journey to design a relevant Defender for the 21st century."
Land Rover’s Global Brand Director, John Edwards, added: “We are determined that the new Defender will be true to its heritage, while meeting the requirements of a changing global market. We plan to engage with existing and potential customers to help us finalise the details of the new vehicle. One thing's for sure, it's going to be an exciting journey, and we can't wait to get going."
Expect full details of the DC100 to be revealed during a press conference which will be streamed live on Land Rover’s website when the Frankfurt Motor Show begins on September 13.
