The Audi A1 has passed with distinction in the Euro NCAP crash test. The new city car from the four rings brand received the top score of five stars in the passive crash safety test. Thanks to the good results for adult protection in a frontal, rear or side collision, as well as for child safety and pedestrian protection, the Audi A1 now features among the safest vehicles in its category.
Established in 1997, the Euro NCAP consortium performs crash tests with all vehicles on the European market with the goal to systematically enhance road safety and to protect the lives of all road users.
The new subcompact model was thoroughly tested by Euro NCAP and earned the top rating because of its scores for adult occupant protection in frontal, rear and side impact collisions. The result is underscored by very good evaluation for child occupant protection.
Another important concern for Audi is to ensure protection for pedestrians and cyclists. With a specially designed vehicle front end, the consequences of a collision are reduced and it is also reflected in the good performance of the Audi A1 in the Euro NCAP test.
Active safety systems for accident avoidance are also a priority for Audi. While developing the Audi A1, one of the first items in the requirements specification was the standard high-performance ESP stabilization system with electronic limited slip differential. This system handles the A1 high stability and very neutral handling in corners. In independent comparison tests the A1 scores very well.
