The Chevrolet Avalanche is over. Chevy is killing the model after introducing it in 2001 and selling 580,000 of them. However, it it going out with a bang with the Black Diamond edition that adds more standard equipment and cuts the price.
The Avalanche was special because it blended SUV and pickup design. It had a standard pickup bed, but when necessary a panel could be removed and the seats laid down to expand storage. It could seat five people when needed or convert into a pickup.
The Black Diamond Edition is available on all models of the Avalanche but varies slightly depending on trim. All cars get body-colored bed surrounds and a Black Diamond badge on the sail panel. LS models get a rear camera, rear park assist, adjustable pedals, fog lamps and remote start as standard equipment. LT models gets the rear camera as standard. While adding this equipment, Chevy has cut the price by $2,500 with a new base price of 36,975 with destination for an Avalanche LS 2WD.
All Avalanches comes with a 5.3l V8 with cylinder deactivation and a six-speed automatic transmission.
“Although Avalanche sales have tapered off in recent years, as crew cabs have grown to dominate Silverado sales, we know there are many Avalanche enthusiasts among Chevy customers. The Black Diamond Avalanche is our way of saying ‘Thank you’ and making it just a little more attractive to own one more Avalanche,” said Mark Clawson, Avalanche marketing manager.
