General Motors Offering Natural Gas Option for Pickups in 2012

General Motors will be offering a bifuel option on its model year 2013 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC 2500 HD extended cab pickups. The trucks can be fueled with either regular gasoline or natural gas to power their 6.0 liter V8 engines. GM claims that because it can switch seamlessly between fuels, the trucks have a total range of just over 650 miles. This engine will be available on trucks with either two- or four-wheel drive and standard or long bed.

The trucks can be ordered like any other. GM ships the completed trucks to a supplier for the installation of the modified engine and fuel tanks, and the supplier ships the trucks to the dealers. The bifuel trucks are covered by a 3 year, 36,000 mile warranty and a 5 year, 100,000 mile warranty on the powertrain. Orders for the trucks begin in April.
