The German brand that suffered financial problems in 2012 is back with a front-engine vehicle with a tubular frame and a chassis of carbon fiber, reinforced glass fiber and aluminum composite. The development of the vehicle was done by a small team in GSM Gumpert in Ingolstadt, Germany.

The Explosion is equipped with a 1984cc four-cylinder engine 420hp of power and 520Nm of torque. The vehicle can be combined with an automatic six-speed gearbox with paddle shift or a manual six-speed gearbox.

Thanks to this engine the Gumpert Explosion can reach 100km/h in three seconds. The maximum speed of the vehicle has not been confirmed, but should be around 300km/h.

"We want to convey to all those drivers who enjoy motor sports what it feels like to sit behind the wheel of a rally car," said company director Roland Gumpert.

The Explosion is the first pre-production model to be completed. The company has already started working on variants of series production and the first models will be launched later this year.

The Gumpert Explosion will be sold from €105,000 excluding VAT and shipping costs.
