The new Jaguar XKR-S convertible will be “the most powerful and fastest open-topped GT model” that Jaguar has ever built. The 186mph (limited) monster made its debut today in Los Angeles.
Despite its 1800kg heft the XKR-S convertible will sprint from 0-62mph in only 4.2 seconds. This is due not only to its 542bhp but 502lb ft of torque which adds plenty of flexibility into the mix.
Like the coupe, it uses a 5.0-litre V8 with a Roots-type twin-vortex supercharger matched up with twin intercoolers.
Jaguar says the car has the stiffest chassis in its class, and they have been keen to let the occupants know about its sporting potential as lashings of carbon-fibre trim adorn the interior.
Jaguar chief chassis engineer Mike Cross says that due to the fact that the XKR was designed as a convertible there is less compromise in the handling than many competitors. This allows Jaguar to revise the steering and stiffen up the suspension and dampers without too much fear of dreaded scuttle shake ruining the ride.
No price has yet been announced, but expect it to be in excess of £100,000.
