that was featured in the 1970 film "Le Mans" will be auctioned at the Race Retro & Classic Car Sale by Silverstone Auctions on February 23 at Stoneleigh Park in the West Midlands, England. It estimates that the car will sell for between £570,000 and £650,000 ($885,600 or €659,000 to $1 million or €751,000)

The car was featured in two scenes in the film. It was painted yellow and spun into the Indianapolis corner and was rebodied as a Gulf-liveried Porsche 917Porsche 917KGermany, 1971 > 19713 photos
for a crash into the armco. 

Since the movie, the car was repaired and entered into historic racing. It comes with current FIA papers, a fresh engine, rebuilt transmission and a new differential. It has recently won historic racing events at Monza and Spa. The car currently wears a historic livery and will come with a wide array of spare parts. 

“It’s rare for a car with such a colorful history, including a starring role in one of the most famous films of the 1970’s, to be offered for auction, so we’re absolutely delighted to have secured it for the Race Retro & Classic Car Sale," said Silverstone Auctions managing director Nick Whale.

The car was originally built in 1969 and its first race was the 1969 Daytona 24 Hours where it crashed out of the race. It raced throughout Europe through the rest of 1969 and was sold to McQueen in early 1970. After filming, it was sold and registered for the road until it was placed in storage between 1975 and 1994. It was restored for track use and has been raced since.
