The book is 8in thick and each page is 18in by 18in

We have all bought things that maybe regret afterward, but how about an auction for a book with a $1m reserve. This is not a Gutenberg bible; it is the new book The Official Formula 1 Opus from the luxury book publisher Opus Media.

The book weighs in at a sturdy 77lb (35kg) and covers 850, 18in by 18in pages with 1,200 photos. Opus says about half of the photos have never been published anywhere else ever before.

Granted not all versions of the book will cost $1 million or more. That is only for the ultimate version that Opus calls “The Bernie,” and it includes VIP tickets for the owner and three guests for the entire 2014 F1 season. The book itself is signed by Bernie Ecclestone and has a solid silver F1 logo on the cover. It comes with a carbon fiber protective case. It will come with a signature sheet with the autographs of 22 Formula 1 world champions.

There are two other less expensive versions of the book as well. The basic version will be limited to 1,500 copies and retail for £2,000 ($3,628 or €2,378). Ecclestone has also signed these as well. The Champions edition has a carbon fiber cover with Ecclestone’s signature and comes with the autographs of the 22 F1 world champions that comes with “The Bernie.” It is limited to 100 copies and will retail for £20,000 ($36,280 or €23,780).

The signatures include famous drivers Jackie Stewart, Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel and Phil Hill who signed the sheets in August 2008, prior to his death.

Opus claims to have already sold six copies of the Champions edition to a single buyer.

Opus was founded in 2007 to create some of the most lavishly produced books ever. It has also published books on Ferrari, Michael Jackson and fashion designer Vivienne Westwood.
