Opel has revealed the first images of the
new generation of the Insignia Sports Tourer. The model will be officialy launched at next month's Geneva Motor Show.

The new
Opel Insignia Sports Tourer gets a completely
new architecture which makes the model up to 100kg lighter than the previous generation.
The trunk volume has also significantly increased by over 100 litres to a total of 1640 litres with the rear seats folded down.
Just like the
new Insignia Grand Sport the new
Sports Tourer has also been
inspired on the designed of the athletic Monza Concept. In this case its exterior dimensions have been extended for the estate version of Opel's flagship model. Although the new Insignia Sports Tourer has grown 11mm in length it has a more athletic and agile stance than the previous generation. Its wheelbase has been extended by 92mm to 2829mm, with the front overhang being reduced by 30mm.
The new flagship estate model will be
equipped with the latest IntelliLink system from Opel. It comes with a touchscreen and three rows of buttons and also gets access to OnStar. This technology will include a “personal assistant” service which allows the driver or passenger to book a hotel while travelling on the Insignia.
Opel also included the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems as well as wireless phone charging.
Other technology features include LED matrix lighting, lane keep assista and head-up display. Front and rear heated seats as well as heated windscreen is also available.
Opel also announces that the Insignia is the first model to be fitted with
active aluminium bonnet, which according to the brand will
improve pedestrian protection.
About the engine lineup that will be featured in the new Sports Tourer,
Opel hasn't revealed much. In the press release about the estate model the make has said that the
Insignia Sports Tourer will be available with a range of turbocharged gasoline and diesel engines. It will be complemented with with latest generation transmissions, including
a newcomer and highly efficient eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The
Insignia Sports Tourer will also get a new intelligent all-wheel drive system with torque vectoring. It features two electrically controlled multi-plate clutches which provide a much more precise power transmission to each wheel individually.
