Nissan has unveiled a facelifted version of the GT-R at the New York Motor Show, which includes design changes on the inside and the outside as well as performance enhancements and new features. Every single year Nissan has launched updates to its supercar, but these are referred as the most significant since the model's launch back in 2007.
The front end of the new GT-R has undergone a complete makeover with new chrome matte finish “V-motion” grille, following Nissan's latest design signatures. It is now larger in order to provide better engine cooling and also receives an updated mesh pattern. The bonnet has been significantly reinforced, contributing to stability during high-speed driving.
Although its profile shape has been kept untouched, the side sills have been pushed out to improve air flow. At the back the GT-R has also received some changes, including new bodywork to help improve air flow, as well as side air vents next to the quad exhaust tips. The belt line that separates the lower black section from the body panel has been heightened to give the car a wider and more aggressive look from the rear. These changes aren't just design and also help to make the GT-R a more aerodynamically efficient vehicle.
Inside the cabin the new 2017 GT-R receives a premium interior with new dashboard and instrument panel covered in high-quality leather. With integrated navigation and audio controls being reduced from 27 to just 11, Nissan has managed to create a better and more simplified center dashboard. An enlarged 8-inch touch-panel monitor features large icons on the display screen to make it easy to operate.
The shift paddles are now mounted to the new steering wheel, allowing drivers to change gears in mid-turn without having to take their hands off the wheel.
The award-winning 3.8-liter V6 24-valve twin-turbocharged engine has also been improved and now gives the GT-R a 570hp output. The power increasement was possible thanks to the individual ignition-timing control of the cylinders and extra boost from the turbochargers. The improvements give the new GT-R a superior acceleration in the mid- to high-ranges. The engine has been coupled to an updated six-speed dual-clutch transmission.
