revolutionized what it meant to be a supercar, which meant it was never given the chance to build the cache that it could have received. Historics at Brooklands will auction one of the 281 cars made on March 9.

The XJ220 was powered by a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 with 542hp and 476lb-ft of torque. It had a top speed of 213mph, which never quite lived up to the XJ220 name that was supposed to indicate a 220mph top speed. They were built for just two years starting in 1992 with a UK price of £470,000.

The car on sale from Historics at Brooklands is a one-owner, left-hand drive 1994 car with 16,000km (9942 miles) on it. It just had a £25,000 ($38,700 or €29,000) service done. The auction company predicts that it will sell for between £115,000-£130,000 (€133,000-€151,000 or $178,000-$201,000) and will include a full service history and the original leather wallet for the owner's manual.

The other thing hurting the XJ220's legacy is its racing history. While the XJ220 was raced, its major victory was a class win at Le Mans, which it was later disqualified from. But the McLaren won the race outright once and had two more top-three finishes. If it had not been for McLaren, the XJ220 would probably be much more famous. 

That price makes the car appear like a bargain. Not only is the estimate about a quarter of the original price, but it is also less than a tenth of what F1's are going for these days. This car will do most of what a McLaren F1 will for a fraction of the price.
