Pikes Peak Hill Climb Rescheduled Until August 12

Suzuki's SX4 Pikes Peak car will be attempting to set a record time

The organizers of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb has been rescheduled for Sunday, August 12.

“The response by the competitors has been tremendously positive, and the drivers and racers have been sensitive and compassionate toward our residents and their struggles and loss. We will have the majority of the registered competitors here for the event, but we will lose some to scheduling conflicts. In fact, many of the drivers and racers have indicated their desire to establish a fund to benefit those agencies that have battled the horrendous fire and now support our ability to stage the race," said said Tom Osborne, President and CEO of the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation, the race's organizing body.

Most of the major teams registered have confirmed that they will be there including Nobuhiro Tajima from the SuzukiXL7 Suzuki XL7 "Pikes Peak" S...Japan, 2007 > present2 photos
team and Romain Dumas.

The race weekend begins on Friday, August 10, with technical inspection and the fan fest.

The hill climb had originally been postponed due to wildfires in the Colorado Springs area. it had 211 vehicles registered before being  postponed. Teams from 25 US states and 15 countries have registered.

Tickets are still available in advance for $40.00 from the event's web site. The organizers will honor previously purchased tickets but will not give refunds.

The fire that postponed the race was the worst in the state's history forcing 32,000 people to evacuate the area and destroying 350 homes.

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb began in 1916 and is the second-oldest motorsports event in the US after the Indianapolis 500.
