as a platform for multiple variants. The latest rumor is that Porsche plans to use the Carrera 4SPorsche 911 Carrera 4SGermany, 2012 > present3 photos
as the basis for a more off-road spec 911 that would be called the 911 Safari at least for the initial concept. It plans to launch the concept at the Beijing Auto Show in April.

The Safari would be based on the Carrera 4 but add larger tires, a higher suspension and skid plates. If the concept were well received, a production model would not be on sale before 2016.

Porsche sees a niche for a higher riding 911 in markets like China, Russia, South America and the Middle East where the roads are not always of high quality.
