Production Maserati Kubang Coming in 2014 with New Name

The Kubang being unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit

Maserati says that bringing the Kubang SUV concept to the Auto Salon China in Beijing will be the last time the car will be presented. According to the Maserati CEO, the next time the car is shown, it will be the production version with a new name. Maserati plans to show the production car at the North American International Auto Show in 2014, and it will go on sale early that year.

"After Beijing, we will retire the Kubang concept. Our SUV will reappear in its production form and with its final name in due time," said Maserati CEO Harald Wester.

There is still no word on the car's powerplant. Current reports indicate the car will use a Maserati-sourced petrol and diesel engine. However, because the prevoiusly named Kubang is based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee platform, it is possible that the Kubang could use the 6.4l Hemi from the Cherokee SRT8 with  470hp.

Simply gorgeous. It's interesting how some Italian makes are daring to produce SUVs. Let's wait for the final proposal then.

I hope they'll use some V8 from the GranTurismo.
