SEAT leads the 2009 World Touring Car Championship

SEAT has reinforced its leadership in the World Touring Car Championship with its last two victories at the Italian racetrack of Imola, where the 10th WTCC encounter of this year occurred. Not only did the Spanish team win the races but they also took both first and second places. SEAT has therefore consolidated the two titles it pulled off at 2008 season of the WTCC.

SEAT claimed victory by the hands of drivers Gabriele Tarquini and Yvan Muller, who drove two SEAT León TDI units. On the first race Tarquini came in first, followed by Muller, while the exact opposite happened on the second race. Following these victories, Gabriele Tarquini now holds seven more points over his teammate Yvan Muller.

The SEAT team has raised its position in the manufacturers’ rank and is now 21 points ahead of German rival BMW. The next WTCC encounter, which will be the penultimate, will take place on the November 1st at the racetrack of Okayama, Japan.
