Oakland Motor Car Company was established by Edward P. Murphy, in Pontiac, Oakland, Michigan, USA in 1907. The Company was named after the Oakland County. In 1908, the Oakland Motor Car Company merged with the Pontiac Spring and Wagon Works, the new company being organized as Oakland Motor Car Company. The brand was launched in 1908. When Edward P. Murphy died, in 1909, the company was bought by General Motors and became the Oakland Motors Division. Oaklands, the second cheaper GM’s brand, were produced until 1932 when the marque was discontinued due to poor sales.
