History

Horacio Pagani started out as a third-level mechanic at Lamborghini’s bodywork department. After being promoted, Horacio was the composite department manager at Lamborghini who, at some point, decided to open his own company – the Pagani Composite Research, founded in 1988. Through his own firm, Pagani kept on cooperating with Lamborghini in several of its projects.

After his friend and Formula 1 champion, Juan Manuel Fangio, strongly encouraged him to start his own sports car production factory, Pagani began working on the “C8 project”, which was the basis for his first production car, the Zonda.
In order to meet the large demands he received for design, engineering and prototyping, Horacio Pagani opened the Modena Design in 1991. Then, in 1992, he finally established the Pagani car company.

In 1994 Horacio Pagani began ordering V12 engines from Mercedes-Benz to power his own cars, establishing a cooperation bond between both brands. Then, finally, in 1999 the company was ready to present their first car, the Zonda C12.
