Pontiac was created by Edward Murphy in 1907. It was then acquired by General Motor in 1909 to market a new model line: the Oakland Motor Car. Pontiac specialized in the production of sports cars and SUVs. GM announced that the brand will be discontinued in 2010 as part of their restructuring plan to overcome financial problems.
