History and Development

The second generation Porsche Boxster was released to markets in 2005, after its first public appearance at the 2004 Paris Motor Show. This Boxster model became best known for its codename ‘987’ and this was a more powerful car than the one from the previous series   The 987 Boxster underwent a small revision in 2007, where its power output received a boost. Both the basic and the ‘S’ variants of the 987 received a cosmetic facelift and a new power increase for 2009. The new models were unveiled in November 2008 at the Los Angeles International Auto Show.   Some limited edition models have also been a part of the 987 series Boxster namely the RS60 Spyder (November 2007) and the Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2 (for 2009). All 987 Boxster units are being assembled at a Porsche facility in Finland.

Early cars were given 5- or 6-speed manual transmissions or a 5-speed automatic one. Body and Design

The Porsche Boxster is only available with a 2-door convertible (roadster) bodywork and its overall styling hasn’t quite changed significantly from the previous generation. The Boxster’s design and styling is very much inspired by the Carrera GT model. Small exterior adjustments were made for the Boxster’s 2009 revision and facelift.
