about:
Porsche launched a mid-engined roadster model called Boxster in 1996 and it was inspired by the 1993 Boxster Concept.
The first generation known internally as 986 was powered by a 2.5l flat 6 cylinder engine. By sharing parts with other models Porsche was able to reduce costs and many experts believe that the launch of the Boxster saved the company from acquisition. This series used Porsche's first water-cooled non-front engine, a flat 6 cylinder unit. A minor facelift was performed in 2003.
The second generation was unveiled at the 2004 Paris Motor Show and is internally known as 987. In terms of design the car didn't show many differences to the previous generation. The biggest change could be seen in the headlights which were now more similar to ones used in the Carrera GT. The engine was the same flat 6 cylinder from the first generation. In 2007 the Boxster received a revised engine the produced 5 extra horsepower.
