The Princess was a medium large family car built in the UK by British Leyland from 1975 until 1981 after absorption of Austin Motor Company by the former. The Princess, often called Austin Princess, was quite successful in its first years of production but sales dropped seriously by the end of the 1970’s affected by the oil crisis when demand for more economical cars increased sharply and also due to the appearance of the hatchbacks that soon gained a substantial share of the large family car market in Europe.
