Alain Prost, one of most successful Formula One drivers, bought the Ligier team in 1997. Prost renamed the team and participated in the F1 Championship of that year, with Panis and Trulli as drivers. The team never won a Grand Prix but it finished 6th in the Constructor’s Championship in 1977. After struggling for two years, not only on the tracks, but also with financial debt, the team announced bankruptcy in 2002.
