In 1972, Renault showed to the public its first ‘supermini’ car, the Renault 5. It was especially notorious for its defined yet round body lines, giving a rather young and contemporary style to the car. It was said to be particularly destined to women, youngsters and single people.
The Renault 5 lived for two generations that comprise the 1970’s, the 1980’s and 1990’s, having been produced from 1972 to 1996. In the years between 1976 and 1984, the R5 was sold as “The Car” in the North American market.
When Renault ceased the production of its ‘5’ model, more than 5 million cars had been built, proving it to be a commercial success.
