In 1950 the Spanish institution “Instituto Nacional de Industria” (INI), along with the Italian car company Fiat, opened the Spanish car builder SEAT, in the form of a subsidiary of Fiat. Today however, SEAT is a part of the  Volkswagen Group. Within the German group, SEAT's models are marketed with a sportive and youthful image. The make's portfolio covers the spectrum from the small city car to the family MPV.

The Spanish brand’s headquarters are located near Barcelona, in Martorell, Spain. The name “SEAT” is actually an acronym that stands for “Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo”, meaning “Spanish Touring Car Company”.
