Review

Fiat began producing the Topolino model cars in 1936 and launched them into the markets the following year. Production lasted for just about two decades, until 1955, with three versions of this model available.
During its life cycle, approximately 520 thousand units of the Fiat Topolino were built.

History, Development and General Characteristics

“Topolino” is Italian for “little mouse” and is also the Italian name used for Disney’s Mickey Mouse. At that time, the Topolino was one of the smallest cars available in the world.
Fiat put the Topolino on the markets in 1937 and it stayed there for the next 18 years, although it didn’t have more than one generation spawned. Three versions of the Topolino were made, each one with very slight aesthetic and mechanic differences.
When Fiat halted the production run of the Topolino, there had been around 520.000 cars from that model built.

Engine and Transmission

The Fiat Topolino is powered by a front-mounted, water-cooled engine, with a 569-cc displacement. This engine produces 13 hp and makes the car reach its top speed at around 53 mi/h (85 km/h).
The Topolino is rear-wheel driven and its transmission is based on a 4-speed manual gearbox.

Body and Design

The 2+2 seat body of the Fiat Topolino was designed by Dante Giacosa, who created one of the smallest and lightest cars in the world at just 535 kg (1.179 lbs).
The Topolino could be acquired in three different body styles: a 2-door coupe, a 2-door cabriolet and a 3-door station wagon.
