The Fiat Uno is based on a front-engine, front-wheel drive arrangement. Early cars had three available engine options: 0.9-liter, 1.1-liter and 1.3-liter units. A 1.3-liter diesel engine joined the available options just about two months after the launch. Such engines had power outputs that ranged from the 45 hp base model to the top-of-the-range 90 hp model, including 55 hp, 60 hp and 75 hp versions.
The standard Mk1 Uno version was the one with the 1.3-liter, 45 hp engine, which took 14 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mi/h. In 1985 Fiat added two new engine options to the Mk1 Uno’s range: a lighter 1.0-liter unit and a turbocharged 1.3-liter unit, which produced 105 hp. Then a 1.7-liter diesel engine became also available in 1987.
The Mk1 Uno received 4-speed and 5-speed manual transmissions. A new optional transmission was made available in 1987, which was the automatic ‘Uno Selecta’ CVT (continuously variable transmission).

The Uno’s unique body style set a whole new trend that was opposite to the increasingly lower cars of that time. This model managed to prove that boxy and small cars could be aerodynamic as well, contrary’s to people’s general belief that only the lower and sleeker vehicles were.
