In 2012 Ford returns to the North American minivan segment with the new Ford C-MAX. Targeting growing, busy North American families, the new model from Ford was exhibited at the 2011 NAIAS in Detroit.
As part of Ford’s global small vehicle strategy, the C-MAX is one of the 10 vehicles that are produced using the same C-vehicle platform. By 2012 Ford expects to produce 2 million vehicles annually using this platform that is also shared by the Ford Focus

topThe C-MAX is fitted with unique features which include an industry-exclusive hands-free power-operated rear liftgate, versatile 5+2 seating configuration with five seats in the main cabin and two smaller seats in the third row, twin sliding doors and active park assist, an advanced new system that automatically steers the vehicle into parallel parking spaces.
topThe C-MAX is Ford’s first C-Class model powered by the new 1.6-liter EcoBoost™ I-4 engine that combines performance with improved fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions. This all-aluminum engine was developed for global applications and combines high-pressure direct injection, low-inertia turbocharging and twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) to achieve fuel economy results up to 20 percent better than naturally aspirated, larger-displacement gasoline engines with a similar power output.
C-MAX’s base engine is the 2.5-liter iVCT I-4 that has been enhanced for small crossover application with low-end torque. Both engines are mated with Ford’s 6F35 automatic six-speed transmission.

In 2014 Ford unveiled a facelift of the second generation C-Max. A series of changes intended to bring it closer to the recently updated Focus, in which the C-Max is based on. Among the list of updated areas are design, chassis and engine range.
Regarding the design, the main change in the C-Max MPV is in the front of the vehicle that receives a new trapezoidal grille, new headlights and bonnet. Thanks to a new manufacturing process Ford managed to simplify the design of the tailgate. The size of the rear lights has been reduced and are next to a redesigned bumper. The vehicle is available with new color options and designs of the alloy wheels.
According to Ford the design changes made to the C-Max aimed to give to the model a more modern look.
Inside the C-Max received a new center console with fewer buttons and a new 8-inch touch screen with Ford's the infotainment system SYNC 2. Higher quality materials were also introduced.
The engine range of the refurbished C-Max include a 1.0-liter Ecoboost with 100 or 125hp and an 1.5-liter Ecoboost with 150 or 180hp. Other novelties include the introduction of 95 and 115hp variants of the 1.5-liter TDCi engine and also the 2.0 TDCi engine with the 150 and 170hp variants.
Regarding the chassis Ford introduced updated suspension and direction systems in order to provide a more dynamic driving.
Changes in the five-seat C-Max model are also reflected in the seven-seater variant Grand C-Max.
