Engine and Performance

The C-MAX is Ford’s first C-Class model powered by the new 1.6-liter EcoBoost™ I-4 engine that combines performance with improved fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions. This all-aluminum engine was developed for global applications and combines high-pressure direct injection, low-inertia turbocharging and twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) to achieve fuel economy results up to 20 percent better than naturally aspirated, larger-displacement gasoline engines with a similar power output.

C-MAX’s base engine is the 2.5-liter iVCT I-4 that has been enhanced for small crossover application with low-end torque. Both engines are mated with Ford’s 6F35 automatic six-speed transmission.
