In 1978, the 131 was updated and the new Mirafiori and Supermirafiori versions were presented at the Geneva Motor Show. The differences between the Mirafiori and Supermirafiori are that the latter were only availabel as 4-door sedans and were equipped with 1300 or 1600 dohc engines.

The Mirafioris continued as 2- and 4-door sedans as well as 5-door Panorama variants and were sold with L and CL trim. Changes compared withh the previous generation were the rectangular headlights and better interior. In terms of mechanics, the 1300 cc engine was increased to 1301 cc.

In 1981, the production of these models ceased. A total of 1.5 million units had been produced.
