Engine

Chevrolet said the only two parts that are shared in the 7th generation Corvette are the interior air filter and the latch for the roof panel. Chevrolet gives the new Corvette an all-new V8.

The all-aluminum direct-injected 6.2-liter LT1 V8 produces at least 450hp and 450lb-ft of torque, which is 20hp more and 26lb-ft more than the 6.2-liter LS3 V8 in the previous base Corvette.

It comes equipped with cylinder deactivation, which can give fuel economy up to 26mpg highway. It runs as a 3.1-liter V4 when the cylinder deativation is functioning. While the engine is still using pushrods, Chevrolet has boosted compression to 11.5:1 and added variable valve timing. That last feature means that while premium fuel is highly recommended, it is not be mandatory on the LT1.

The engine has been designed to work with either a dry sump or wet sump oil system. The wet sump system will be standard. The dry sump system holds 11.5 quarts of oil.
