Skoda debuted the third generation Octavia Combi at the Geneva Motor Show on March 5 and add a 4X4 model with the fifth-generation Haldex all-wheel drive system from the Golf 4Motion.

The Combi adds 90mm (3.5in) to the length, 45mm (1.7in) to the width and 11cm (4.3in) to the wheelbase compared to the last generation Octavia Combi. The growth has given the car class-leading 73mm (2.9in) rear legroom and class-leading 610 liters (21.54ft³) rear cargo space or 1,740 liters (61.45ft³) with the seats laid down.

The style is basically the same as the standard car. The front is identical, but the roofline sweeps down slightly to the rear, and the taillights wrap around the sides of the d-pillars.

The rear cargo area comes with a double-sided floor mat, net restraints and bag hooks. Up front, buyers get a waste bin, a holder for multimedia devices, and an ice scraper.

There are eight engines at launch - four petrol and four diesel. The most fuel-efficient version is the GreenLine that uses 3.4l/100km (69mpg US) and emits 89g/km of CO2.

Options on the car include automatic emergency braking, fatigue detection, lane assistant, adaptive cruise control and satellite navigation.

It rides standard on 17in wheels, but there are also 18in and 19in options. At the rear, there is a black diffuser with trapezoidal, chrome exhausts, LED running lights and rear spoiler.

Inside, the RS model gets LED ambient lighting, sport seats, a three-spoke steering wheel, and there are RS logos around the interior. There is optional adaptive cruise control, parking assist, road sign detection, keyless entry and start, and Intelligent Light Assist.

The Octavia RS is powered by either a 2.0-liter TSI engine with 217hp or a 2.0-liter TDI with 181hp. Both come with either a six-speed manual or six-speed DSG. The TSI accelerates to 100km/h in 6.8 seconds with the six-speed manual and has top speed of 248km/h. The TDI accelerates to 100km/h in 8.1 seconds with a top speed of 232km/h with the six-speed manual.

The engines are also an average of 19% more fuel efficient than the engines from the previous generation thanks to more efficient engines, start/stop and brake regeneration.

The RS model comes with a sports suspension as standard with a 12mm lower body, new multi-link rear suspension and electronic differential lock.

Skoda

The origin of Skoda Auto goes back to 1895. Václav Laurin, a mechanic, and Václav Klement, book-seller, both shared a passion for bicycles. When Klement tried to get spare parts to fix is bicycle and wrote to the manufacturer in Czech, he got an unfawl reply asking him to write in a language they could understand. In that moment, the two Czechs founded Laurin & Klement and started to produce bicycles under the patriotic name: Slavia.
