Dodge’s in-house tuning division, Street & Racing Technology, raided the “go fast” parts bin to come up with something special: 20” forged aluminum wheels, four-pot Brembo brakes (14.2” front, 13.8” rear (36.1 cm & 35.1 cm)), a sophisticated adaptive dampening suspension system, a new heavy duty steering box and a 5-speed automatic gearbox with wheel mounted paddle shifters.
Inside, the SRT8’s seats are trimmed with suede and thick with heavy side bolsters. All four seats are heated and there’s a new leather warped flat-bottomed steering wheel, to which the aforementioned paddle shifters are attached. Carbon fiber and aluminum interior trim are also new exclusive to the SRT8.
The SRT8 also adds a new 8.4 inch (21.3 cm) Uconnect Touch screen “infotainment” system which displays: 0-60 times, 60-0 braking forces, 1/8 & 1/4 mile times, expanded engine measurements and drivers preferences. Attached to Uconnect is a 19 speaker, 900 watt Harmon Kardon sound system.
The new 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 is also more efficient than the old unit. It features cylinder deactivation for highway cruising and an active intake manifold, which adds more torque at the bottom of the rev range. 0-60 mph performance is “less than 5 seconds”, 1/4 mile times “in the high 12’s” with a terminal velocity of 175 mph (282 kph) and skid pad measurements in the .88g range.
