Founded in 1932 by Wilhelm Gutbrod, the company only produced one model with the Standard badge. Ironically, it would be a model that would make automobile history: the Standard Superior, designed by Josef Ganz and considered the inspiration behind the Volkswagen Beetle. Standard manufactured the Superior until 1935. The Standard plant remained in production from 1949 to 1954, but the cars were badged as Gutbrod.
