Standard Motor Company

The Standard Motor Company was an english car manufacturer that had its peak in the pre-war Era, reaching the six place in the top selling marques in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1903 by Reginald Walter Maudslay, Standard first car was a 6 cylindre model. Maudslay named the company Standard because he wanted reliable, tried and testes materials used in his cars. In the 1950s, Satndard acquired Triumphs and the cars began to be badged Triumph models in an effort to gain more buyers. During the 1960s, Leyland took over Standard and when the merging with BMC occurred in 1968, Standard production was discontinued in the UK, but kept being marketed in India until 1987. Today, the BMW group owns the Standard badge.
