Subaru made the official unveiling of the third generation Impreza in April 2007 at the New York Auto Show.
The new Impreza carries Subaru’s intention of offering a turbocharged production car with the high performance of rally-purpose cars at any time and under all driving conditions.
The third series Impreza is currently on production.

Subaru provides the 3rd series Impreza with flat-4 (boxer) front engines, front- and four-wheel drive powertrains (depending on the versions) and either 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmissions, according to each Impreza version’s features.
Within the internationally sold Impreza versions, 2.0- and 2.5-liter displacement engines are offered, with horsepower ratings between 148 and 305. The most commonly offered engine, however, is the 2.5-liter turbocharged unit with 224 hp, which allows the car to go from 0-60 mi/h (0-97 km/h) in 5.7 seconds.
With the Japanese domestic market, Subaru offers a different engine range for the Impreza, with displacement capacities of 1.5 and 2.0 liters, including one turbocharged 2.0-liter unit.
A diesel engine is scheduled to be added to the Impreza range in January 2009.

The customer of a third series Subaru Impreza can either choose a 4-door sedan or a 5-door hatchback car.
The hatchback, offered for the first time in a Subaru Impreza, has a characteristic curved roofline that ends on an aerodynamic rear spoiler, resulting on an accentuated sports-style look. The sedan Imprezas now have a wider and sharper front fascia, when compared to the earlier generations.
