The Toyota P002 was supposed to set a new electric car record up the Goodwood Hill but rain got in the way

, but looking at their motorsports activity, they are surprisingly similar. Both of them had success in rallying in the 80s – Audi in the early portion and Toyota later – and both of them have made a major commitment to racing at Le Mans. While Toyota has never won the 24 Hour race outright, it does have one class victory to its name and four second-place overall finishes. Both companies will be showing off their racing history at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed from July 11-24.

Audi

Audi is celebrating three anniversaries at this year’s event – the 20th anniversary of the event, 30th anniversary of Hannu Mikkola winning the WRC Championship in an Audi QuattroSport Quattro S1Audi Sport Quattro S1Germany, 1984 > present8 photos

Mikkola will drive the restored 1983 Audi Quattro that he won the championship in up the Goodwood Hill. Hans-Joachim Stuck will drive the same 200 Quattro he drove in the 1988 TransAm Championship. Car enthusiast and Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason will drive the Type C.

Toyota

Toyota’s presentation this year at Goodwood also includes its rally and circuit racing classics. An original 2000GT2000GTToyota 2000GTJapan, 1967 > 19702 photos
